Lots of Love

In EXPLORATIONS

Love was definitely in the air this past Valentine's Day weekend, as our guests feasted on our heart-shaped crabcakes, apple crepes adorned with rose petal confetti, and chocolate cups filled with fresh berries and marscapone. Also in the air were sunshine, clear skies, and temperatures in the 50s. What wasn't in the air was the rain and snow experienced by many areas of the country. Cupid smiled down us through the blue hole, or perhaps in this case, the blue heart.

For those unfamiliar with the term, the blue hole is a microclimate created by the Olympic Mountains that shelters our area from much of the cold and rain people often associate with the Pacific Northwest. While nearby areas like Forks may be blanketed by cloud cover (much to the delight of, say, Vampires), we may look up to see clear skies, hence, the blue hole.

And although by now the chocolates may have all been eaten, the champagne lost its fizz, and the roses dropped their last petals, our pleasant weather continues. Regardless of what that nearsighted groundhog has to say, everywhere we look, new life is sprouting. The Paperwhites are in full bloom, young deer are testing their skills, and Mama and Papa bald eagle have that special twinkle in their eyes and are not afraid to vocalize their intentions.

All of this has motivated us to finish off our list of winter projects - from repainting to replanting to restocking and refreshing. We don't want to be stuck inside when Hurricane Ridge, Lake Crescent, and Sol Duc Falls start calling us to come out and play.
